How to Legally Get Married in Singapore
For Singaporeans
Getting married in Singapore involves several legal steps to ensure your marriage is recognized. Couples must register their intention to marry at least 21 days before the wedding date through the Registry of Marriages (ROM) website and applications expire 6 calendar months after submission after which you will need to submit a new application. For Marriage between Singaporean and Permanent Resident/ Current or Former Work Permit Holder/ Training Permit Holder
Additional documentations are required; A Marriage approval letter from Ministry of Manpower (MOM) or Work/ immigration pass issued by MOM or Immigration & Checkpoint Authority of Singapore (ICA).
For Marriage between Singaporean and Foreigner
Either one of the applicant must have stayed in Singapore for at least 31 continuous days before a marriage application can be submitted to ROM. The 31 continuous days (excluding the day of arrival in Singapore) can be one made in a single trip, anytime in the past. If applicants plan to reside long term in Singapore after marriage, both are strongly encouraged to undergo the Pre-Marriage Long Term Visit Pass Assessment (PMLA) by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) before your marriage.
Both Foreigners
Either one of the applicant must have stayed in Singapore for at least 31 continuous days before a marriage application can be submitted to ROM. The 31 continuous days (excluding the day of arrival in Singapore) can be one made in a single trip, anytime in the past.
For those with a work or long term immigration pass in Singapore, a valid pass (issued by the MOM or ICA) for verification during the appointment with ROM is needed.
For those on a tourist visa, additional documents like a Letter of No Impediment to Marriage issued by your respective home countries’ embassies or government authorities and a document to verify single status is mandatory. More info here.
