Irynna and Duncan’s wedding at the historic Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion in Penang was a vibrant and heartfelt celebration, perfectly balancing tradition and modernity. As the final instalment of their multicultural wedding journey (check out their Malay wedding here), the day captured the couple’s love, groom’s cultural heritage, and personal touches in the most beautiful way.

The day began with a lively gate-crashing ceremony, a customary practice in Chinese weddings where the groom and his groomsmen perform tasks to “win” the bride. Against the mansion’s signature deep blue walls, the joyful chaos of the ceremony brought a sense of fun and connection to the event, as Duncan and his entourage worked their way to Irynna.

The tone quickly shifted to something deeply sentimental with the traditional tea ceremony. Dressed in intricately embroidered outfits—a bright red kua for Irynna and a matching ensemble for Duncan—the couple knelt before their elders, serving tea and receiving blessings. The intimate exchange of smiles and tears underscored the importance of family in their union, blending tradition with emotion.

For the reception, guests were welcomed with thoughtful details, including Chinese tea cups as wedding favors—a nod to the ceremony and a meaningful keepsake. The evening transitioned into a refined dinner reception, where Irynna changed into a modern cheongsam featuring soft pastel florals, and Duncan donned a classic black tuxedo, exuding timeless elegance.

The couple embraced the venue’s opulent charm by incorporating a bold color palette of crimson, gold, and jade green into their decor. Lush floral arrangements featuring tropical blooms enhanced the dramatic setting, while traditional red cushions and ornamental chairs added a layer of authenticity to the celebrations.

The heartfelt speeches during the reception stood out as one of the most memorable parts of the day. Family and friends took turns sharing stories and well-wishes, creating a blissful atmosphere. The couple’s visible emotions reflected the genuine connections they share with those closest to them. An after-party followed, allowing guests to let loose in the same venue, transforming the timeless mansion into a lively dance floor.
