Nana and Afif’s love story began with a chance meeting aboard a flight to Kuala Lumpur. What could have been an uneventful trip turned into a fateful encounter when Afif spotted Nana reading a Japanese book. Summoning all the Japanese vocabulary he could muster, he started a conversation that led to a connection. It wasn’t until they reached customs, where Afif helped Nana communicate with a prepaid vendor, that he finally asked for her Instagram handle. “And the rest was history” shared Afif.

The couple’s decision to hold their wedding in Kyoto, Nana’s hometown, was both sentimental and practical. Hosting their special day in Japan allowed them to embrace a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. Their ceremony took place at Yasaka Shrine, an iconic site known for its historical significance and serene ambiance.

Nana and Afif embraced Japanese tradition with their wedding attire during the Shinto ceremony. Nana looked breathtaking in a pure white wedding kimono, symbolizing purity and new beginnings. Her outfit featured intricate patterns and a traditional white hood, known as the “tsunokakushi,” designed to represent humility. Afif matched the elegance of the occasion in a classic black-and-white montsuki paired with striped hakama pants, completing his refined look as the groom.

Later in the evening, the couple transitioned into more contemporary styles for their reception at Sodoh Higashiyama. The venue’s traditional architecture, characterized by rich wooden tones, harmonised beautifully with the sakura-themed decor and thoughtfully curated menu, creating a seamless fusion of heritage and modern elegance The space perfectly complemented their sakura-inspired table scapes. Nana’s second look was a minimalist white wedding gown with a structured silhouette, accessorised with a delicate white flowers in her hair. Afif donned a sleek black tuxedo, exuding timeless sophistication.

A standout moment of the reception was when Afif read a heartfelt “wedding letter” in Japanese, thanking Nana’s family members individually. His slow, deliberate effort in their language brought tears to many, including Nana, who felt deeply moved by the gesture.
