Proud and Jan’s journey blossomed from a friendship forged in the quaint corridors of a Dutch university, culminated in a breathtaking celebration of love, seven years in the making. Their choice of venue, the Four Seasons Hotel Chiang Mai, was more than a location; it was a testament to their shared experiences and a nod to Proud’s Thai heritage. The decision to marry here was one of sentiment and scenery, offering their 90 guests a taste of Thailand beyond the clichéd beaches – a true mountainous marvel.

The couple’s wardrobe spoke volumes of their personalities. Jan donned a sleek black tuxedo, his look completed with a bow tie and black sunglasses, evoking a timelessness fitting for the occasion. Proud, an epitome of grace, was a vision in her off-shoulder wedding gown adorned with delicate florals, a creation of her cousin, a renowned Thai designer, Vatanika. For the reception, her silhouette was elegantly redefined in a one-shoulder hand-draped silk gown, showcasing the versatility and depth of Thai haute couture.

Their theme, subtly woven through the fabric of the day, championed neutral and pastel tones, standing out in the vivid green backdrop of their mountainous venue. The decorations mirrored this ethos, with an abundance of white flowers creating an ethereal atmosphere that was both luxurious and intimate.

The day unfolded with tranquility as Proud and Jan savoured a private first look, a tranquil pause before the cascade of events. As the sun dipped, their vows were exchanged in an intimate garden ceremony set against a backdrop of rice fields and stunning mountain views in the tranquil Mae Rim Valley. Later, the celebration transitioned to Terra Restaurant that transformed into an enchanted garden that glittered under the starlight.

Beyond the visual splendor, the wedding was imbued with personal touches. Vatanika’s custom-designed bridal and bridesmaid dresses were a sartorial homage, while handmade aroma stone favours from Proud’s mother added a sensory memory to the occasion.

Proud and Jan’s message to others on a similar path is poignant: prioritize love over external pressures, embrace every moment, and, above all, stay united. Their dream was made tangible through the collaborative artistry of their vendors, from The Wedding Bliss’s exquisite planning to the photographers, Vlasta, who immortalised their day with the allure of a magazine cover, and Tina Derske’s team who ensured they looked and felt stellar.
