Even when you’re in your home country, you can have a destination wedding of sorts! This couple had their wedding ceremony in Jakarta Cathedral, then their dinner reception the next day at The Edge Villas Uluwatu, Bali.
Jakarta Cathedral, with its vaulted teakwood ceilings and sunlight streaming through long, narrow windows above the grand main altar, needed only minimal decorations. From the bride’s baby’s breath bouquet to the white-on-white floral pew hangers and textured white carpet, everything was kept simple. This allowed the grandeur of the venue to truly shine, lending an air of solemnity and awe to the proceedings.

The Edge in Bali was also breathtaking, but in a different way. Built on the edge of a cliff overlooking the vast Indian Ocean, guests were spoilt by the view and sea breeze. Dinner tables were set out on the lawn, against the panoramic backdrop of deep blue ocean and sky. Twinkling string lights and glowing candles from the centrepieces bathed the whole scene in soft, warm light. Again, the decorations were kept simple with all the floral arrangements in pure white, framed by soft green foliage, and accents in the form of gold chairs and candlesticks.
Julia: “I’m not your typical honey-sweet bride, and I wanted something that was real. So the most memorable part of the whole wedding was actually the guests that attended. It was highly selective, unlike the typical Indonesian wedding where thousands of guests are invited. The guests that came were our very close friends from school and college. This made the wedding really lively! The heartwarming speeches from the bridal parties and sincere hugs traded that day made it most special.”
