For this backyard wedding, the bride transformed her garden into an elegant floral wonderland so she and her groom could say, “I do”. The attention to detail was impeccable, as she had thought of everything, right down to just the right touches of rustic wooden accents. We especially loved the “into the woods” feel of the reception, where it seemed like guests were stepping into a fantasy woodland filled with fairy lights. Many thanks to MunKeat Photography for this gorgeous set of photos!

Ee: “There were so many things I was in love with, but I’d have to say the highlights were walking down the aisle with my dad, my parents’ speech, and when everyone surprised us with a flash mob dance! It was incredibly heart-warming when I realised how much effort had been put into making this day that much more special for us. Some of our guests lived overseas so it took a lot of coordination and commitment!

“I wanted an outdoor wedding filled with greenery and flowers but it was nearly impossible to find a venue like that in KL. When mum suggested our home, I was sceptical at first, but I cannot express how happy I am that we went with her suggestion. The decorations created such a dreamy and whimsical atmosphere; it was surreal.

“The theme of our ceremony was a champagne brunch soiree – alfresco with a light and feminine overall feel, styled with a touch of rustic elegance. We got customised wooden carts, crates and ladders to act as stations for the hors d’oeuvres, cold cuts, cheeses and fresh juices, as well as a 3-piece string ensemble and plenty of champagne. Our colour palette was mostly pastels – peach, ivory, pink and lavender, with a hint of deep berry to add a pop of colour.

“As for our reception, I wanted to create a romantic and dazzling ambience where guests felt like they were sitting in the woods under the stars. To create this, we had trees decorated with fairy lights lining the walls of the ballroom, hedges dotted with fairy lights along our walkway, bell jars filled with fairy lights as part of the table décor, and fairy lights in the glass stage that the bridal table was on top of.

“We tried to encapsulate the ‘into the woods’ theme by having table arrangements that were scattered with real fruits and gold-painted branches, acorns and other decorations, and we even used the massive LED screen to project an animation of twinkling lights with our monogram in the centre! Keeping with the rustic elegant theme, we chose deeper autumn-like colours such as maroon, dark blue, green, blush and gold.”

Tips from the bride: “My philosophy is that you can never start too early in planning for such a momentous occasion! Pinterest is your best friend, unless you’re like me. Then it can be your worst enemy when it comes to making decisions, so know when to stop scrolling! There are just too many beautiful things out there!

“If you have to invest in one thing, it should be a very good photographer. Also, getting someone that’ll help you to plan the wedding is a definite must-have. Not stressing about it leading up to the big day will make all the difference in the way you experience your wedding. Lastly, as much as your wedding means to you, try not to obsess over the little details. I did that; I was Bridezilla, and it almost cost me my experience. On the day itself, make sure you stop thinking about whether things are right or wrong and just allow yourself to soak up the atmosphere and all the emotions. Take a ton of pictures and spend as much time as possible with your guests, especially with your loved ones. Really breathe in each moment because they are ever so fleeting and you may soon find yourself yearning to relive this experience of a lifetime!”
