When it comes to infusing your personality into your wedding, intimate celebrations are the perfect opportunity. For this bride and groom, everything was a reflection of what they loved as a couple and about each other. From including calligraphy into their art and invitations to giving tea as their wedding favours – their caterer even created a special mocktail for their wedding featuring a tea infusion!

Despite being held in a garden, the wedding had a clean and modern aesthetic. The bride wore a chic contoured yet classic dress, and a metallic hairclip to complete her look. The groom was a professional musician so he and his friends took turns performing throughout the reception, creating the perfect party atmosphere in that cosy gathering of family and friends.

With the autumn breeze, blue skies and lots of sunshine, it was indeed a beautiful Wednesday afternoon to get married. The stylings of Shirleen of Timeless Event Design were spot on, and many thanks to Mary Ann Art & Photography for capturing these beautiful photos.

Shirleen, wedding planner from Timeless Event Design: “Kerrie and Marcus are one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met. On our first meeting, they had a very clear vision of an outdoor Christian wedding on a lush green lawn, followed by a casual cocktail party. Very quickly, we all agreed Bauhinia Garden in Kowloon Tsai Park would be a perfect fit.

“After learning about their journey together, as well as understanding their aesthetic preferences, I came up with a proposal for a modern, organic and chic design. The design elements were based on the couple’s requests for it to not be too feminine and to use foliage instead of flowers. I suggested a natural palette with grey, blush and bracing blue tones, paired with transparent and metallic materials to create a stylish and modern feel.

“Kerrie and Marcus go on special activity dates every month to experience new things together. After learning that a calligraphy workshop was one of their favourites, I brought in Heidi (of The Calligraphy Girl) to write their names and favourite Bible verses in a folding envelope, while their friend, who is a graphic designer, helped with the layout.

“As they’re both big fans of tea, it was only natural that tea would be featured as wedding favours. But to make the favours especially personal, the couple picked two of their favourite blends and packaged the tealeaves in small bags themselves. The use of vellum paper also matched the transparent effect of the ghost chairs.”

Kerrie: “The most memorable moment was walking down the aisle on the arms of my parents. It made me feel incredibly thankful to be surrounded by my loved ones, even though I only had eyes for one person – the man waiting for me at the altar. Our wonderful musician friends made the moment even more magical with a personalised saxophone and piano rendition of ‘Beautiful in White’.”

Tips from the bride and groom: “Consider an intimate weekday wedding! For our Wednesday afternoon wedding, there was zero competition for vendors and you can even negotiate a cheaper weekday rate. We had our pick of the crop and managed to book all our first choice vendors, some as close as two months before the wedding (great for indecisive brides like myself). Naturally not all invitees would be able to make it on a weekday due to school or work, but this is a great option if you’ve always dreamed of having an intimate, 100 guests or fewer wedding.”
