By now, you would have heard of many cancelled weddings and postponed receptions. While disappointing, these newlyweds still wanted to honour the day they were originally going to become husband and wife. Their intended wedding date fell during Malaysia’s Movement Control Order, which meant large gatherings were not allowed but photoshoots with strict social distancing in place were good to go.

These pre-wedding shots were taken at the newly opened rustic chic boutique hotel, KLoé Hotel in downtown KL, and the couple also used the opportunity to exchange their personal vows. Love prevails! The beautiful space and lush wildflowers, together with the bride’s chic bridal jumpsuit, made for a beautifully understated yet glamorous colour palette. Capturing these intimate moments was Louis Gan of Louis Gan Photography – many thanks for these gorgeous shots!

Louis: “Nick and Eileen had been planning their wedding for almost 10 months, and the special day was affected by the Covid-19 lockdowns. The couple made the tough call to postpone their wedding, as the Prime Minister announced a further extension of the Movement Control Order. As you can imagine, it was pretty devastating and heart-breaking as everything the couple had spent months of effort putting together was derailed by something bigger.

“Eileen took a few weeks to accept the fact that they were no longer getting married but after a while, things started to take a turn. They discussed whether or not they should do something to celebrate their intended wedding date – and that’s exactly what they did! They exchanged personal vows, something they were supposed to do on this exact day in front of 250 people, except this time it was just an intimate moment shared between the both of them, which was truly magical.”

Eileen: “We decided to do this because we wanted to commemorate what was supposed to be our big day and also have something special to remember it by. We wanted to do something that would make us both happy, instead of staying at home and thinking about what could have or should have been while being sad and disappointed.”

Tips from the bride: “Just remember that although your wedding can no longer go according to plan, that does not mean that love is cancelled. Try to remain positive and focus on what’s really important – the love you have for one another.”

Eileen also appeared as a guest on a ‘Live & Learn’ IG Live session alongside esteemed wedding planner Natasha Khoo from Peak Xperience. Hosted by Eileen’s bridesmaid and emcee, Victoria Ong, the session covered Eileen’s experiences in postponing her wedding day, as well as Natasha’s expert advice as a wedding planner. It was put together in the hope that it would assist other couples that were going through the same thing.
