Shannon and Kailiang chanced upon each other when their businesses came together for a collaboration. Two years on, the couple got engaged, and believe it or not; Shannon unknowingly planned her own proposal. As the owner and founder of Glamedge – a designer gown rental company, Kailiang suggested that she took the opportunity of planning a photoshoot with her dresses while on vacation. Shannon planned the logistics, hired the photographer and makeup artist (who were then later let in on the surprise proposal planned by Kailiang) for what she would only discover later was to be her proposal.

When a window of opportunity opened up during the easing of government mandated lockdown, the couple decided on a whim to throw a wedding within a month. Shannon, who is no stranger to the wedding industry, knew that she wouldn’t be able to pull off a relaxed luxury wedding without a wedding planner, hired Lafs wedding event for the demanding task of planning and execution.

When asked about how they picked this wedding venue, Shannon responded by saying that they were initially there for a staycation. “It was during the trip that Kailiang decided this is the place we needed to have our wedding.” They had a rather intimate wedding, celebrating with close families and friends only.

Despite wedding trends then pointing towards neutral and toned-down colours, this bride stuck to her guts and included shades of lavender into her mood board, against advice that it may look dated. “This was a colour I envisioned would be part of my wedding since my teen years, I can’t imagine abandoning it now,” says Shannon. To this, we lend her our reflexive support.

“Most of the wedding guests were dressed in outfits from our boutique. Since, my wedding dress was a huge princess ball gown, I told our guests to go-to-town with their outfits and not worry about upstaging me” adds Shannon.

The planners at Lafs wedding event pulled off an amazing event within one month, having an eye for detail that comes with experience, they repurposed the white arch from the ceremony to an after-party scene using specialised lighting. A creative way to double up on wedding decor props.

Shannon said that it was impossible to pin-point a moment that was most memorable to her, everything from her sister’s speeches, surprise song dedication to the couple’s first dance came flooding back when she reminisces on their luxe celebration. Her one advice to all brides is to hire a wedding coordinator. “I was able to soak in everything, it would have been impossible without one” she concluded.
