Sometimes an idea is sparked from just one detail of the wedding, and for this bride, it was her emerald green cheongsam. From there, she decided on Oriental-themed bridal portraits and a throwback to Old Shanghai.
The décor of PS150 perfectly fit the theme, with its exposed walls, romantic lights and nostalgic little vintage details. Thanks to Peter Herman Photography for this perfectly lovely set of photos.
Sara: “The idea behind this photoshoot started with my emerald green cheongsam. I had wanted a vintage inspired cheongsam with large peony embroidery for my wedding, and when I received the finished product, my designer convinced me that I should do a photoshoot with the cheongsam. I was immediately sold on the idea, as I have always adored Shanghai-themed bridal portraits.
“Next, we had to think of where to shoot the portraits. Kuala Lumpur is littered with suitable places but we ultimately chose PS150, a new bar right in the heart of Chinatown. PS150 was perfect – it was raw yet nostalgic, and its original walls tell the stories of yesteryear. It paid homage to the iconic Petaling Street, and most importantly, brought a local flavour to the concept. It fit our idea perfectly and the staff at PS150 was kind enough to light up the bar for our shoot.
“I pitched the idea to our photographer, Peter, who was game for something new. Peter grasped the concept immediately and flawlessly executed the shoot. Needless to say, we were ecstatic with the results!”
Tips from a bride for your bridal portraits: “Do plenty of research and be committed to the theme. Every facet of the photoshoot counts: full attire, props and even makeup!”
