Some love stories are written in the stars, but theirs was written by the sea. They first met at a wedding in Bali—she was a bridal makeup artist, he was the best man—and fate effortlessly brought them together. Years later, he proposed in Korea during their first trip abroad, choosing a meaningful first to mark the beginning of their forever journey. When it came time to plan their wedding, they wanted something deeply personal—an intimate celebration that reflected their personality.

The bride’s gown was a flowing white and gold chiffon dress that embraced the fluidity of movement with delicate gold lace that mirrored the shimmer of sunlight on the sea’s surface. The intricate details resembled seashells and mermaid scales, a tribute to her love for mermaids. The groom’s look was dressed in a rich brown suit, his earthy tones blended seamlessly with the rustic surroundings.

They found the perfect venue in an unexpected place—a charming café nestled within a traditional fishing village in Kuala Selangor. With wooden jetties, bobbing fishing boats, and sprawling mangroves as their backdrop, they created a unique wedding in this hidden gem by the water. This setting, with its deep waters, aged wooden planks, and the ever-changing hues of the sky, lent itself to a wedding aesthetic that felt both raw and ethereal.
The floral arrangements were a masterpiece, designed to mimic coral reefs and underwater landscapes. Dried foliage, preserved blooms, and organic textures intertwined in shades of deep navy, sandy beige, and ivory, evoking the raw beauty of the ocean floor. Along the wooden jetty, candles flickered softly, casting a warm glow as the sun dipped below the horizon, illuminating the surrounding mangroves.

The ceremony itself was nothing short of magical. Held just before dusk, the jetty was bathed in golden sunlight as a song about the sea set the tone. Family and friends listened in quiet anticipation as the wedding celebrant told the couple’s story. A close friend played a song as the bride made her way down the aisle, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the wooden planks adding to the ethereal atmosphere.

As night fell, the celebration transformed into something even more enchanting. A live band performed on the café’s open deck beneath a canopy of string lights, their melodies drifting over the water. The lead singer dedicated a song about mermaids, a heartfelt tribute to the bride’s deep love for the sea. Guests swayed, clapped, and sang along, completely immersed in the magic of the night.

Later, under the moonlit sky, the couple shared their first dance, surrounded by loved ones holding sparklers high in the air. The final moment—a breathtaking kiss amidst the glow of golden sparks—was the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.
It’s difficult to fully capture the essence of this wedding, but perhaps the best way to describe it is mystical romance—a celebration that felt both intimate and otherworldly. It was a true testament to what happens when couples embrace their vision wholeheartedly, letting go of traditional expectations in pursuit of a wedding that is a true reflection of them.
