This couple made DIY so much more enjoyable. Their courage to explore different materials and prototypes to come up with something different and new made this wedding thoroughly theirs. They might have co-founded a laser cutting company but they didn’t just use it, they took the opportunity to push boundaries and reveal even more possibilities. We love the contemporary industrial theme. Thanks, Jonathan Ong, for sending this set over.
Beatrice: “To be honest, we actually created a long list of things that we just loved and treasured from our wedding day! From the free hotel upgrade to the perfect weather, the heartfelt vows to the emotional speeches, the smooth program and us simply feeling like a king and queen all day – all the little details that we had put into the planning paid off, and it was such a joy to watch our friends and family enjoy the day with us.
“The concept behind the theme was really to celebrate the reason we got together, that being the laser cutting company we founded with a few friends, and at the same time to push the boundaries of a laser cut wedding. The colour options of grey and salmon pink represented TheMakeLab, and we worked them through our entire theme. As for the venue, with both of us being architects, we had a passion for cities and were keen to have an urban industrial wedding within close proximity to the city, which is where we had spent all our time in Melbourne together.
“Our DIY journey was truly a design workshop for us both, as we tested and prototyped all sorts of ideas for our save the dates, invites, décor and props, program, favours, signage, menu, thank you gifts… pretty much anything we could get our hands on. We wanted to inject as much of ourselves into the day as possible, and were keen to create a fun and engaging day for the guests. We had a blast planning it!”
Tips from the bride: “My ultimate tip would be, plan all you want beforehand, but on your wedding day, put on that veil and throw off your planner’s hat. Stop worrying about things that may not have gone according to plan; it always works out in the end and it’s simply not worth ruining your good spirits on this one special day.”
