Joanne: “The bridal games were a fantastic, fun-filled way to kick off the day. Celebrating the occasion with so many of our friends and family was the biggest joy of all. To see all the details come together – the décor, flowers, food and the outfits – it sounds clichéd, but it really was our dream wedding come true! All made possible by the most supportive family and bridal party, as well as a superb team of vendors.
“We decided on a modern and brightly coloured Peranakan theme, which we thought would fit well with the old-world charm of The Majestic Hotel. We used various Nyonya elements throughout our décor, such as fresh ‘bunga kantan’ in our bridal bouquets and boutonnieres, Nyonya edible potted herbs as wedding favours, as well as a Peranakan shophouse backdrop for our photobooth. As Guan Leong is a Nyonya chef, having food that was on theme was also important to us. We collaborated with the catering team at Majestic Hotel to come up with a customised menu featuring Nyonya specialist dishes like Curry Kapitan, Nyonya Kerabu and Inchi Kabin, and we also had a selection of Nyonya Kuihs from Aroma Nyonya for dessert.”
Tips from the bride: “Planning a KL wedding remotely from London, where we’re based, was no easy feat. Research-wise, most of our inspiration was drawn from Instagram. We were very blessed to have our team of wedding planners from Moments as well as our decorator extraordinaire, Hilda from Dayco , on board to execute our vision for the Modern Peranakan theme. Selecting the right venue, photographer, videographer, and hair and makeup artist is also crucial. We would not hesitate to recommend our extremely talented team of vendors, all of whom were highly professional and a joy to work with.”
