Faith and Max held their wedding at Taylor’s University Lakeside, and from the moment guests received their invitations, it was like they had just gotten passes to the most happening event of the year. We wish we were there because it looked like such an uber cool wedding.
Max: “The theme of our wedding was ‘We Love Because God First Loved Us’ (1 John 4:19). I believe our wedding theme and concept came from none other than God. [Faith and I] have so many differences, yet we are able to choose to love because we know God has planned this relationship for us since the beginning. Basically we realised that we can’t love if we never learn that love comes from God in the first place.
“As to why we chose this venue, this is where our hearts are. We love college students. There’s just so much energy in them as well as potential. We are thankful for the privilege of building a campus generation as well as our church ministry. It was at this very spot that I proposed a year before our wedding.
“It was unbelievable that the day had come – a day in which I saw how God had orchestrated such a beautiful wedding for us! Firstly, there was fine weather during the rainy season, and secondly, my bride sang her vows in a song – the sweetest one. On that day, we married the best that God has given us.”
Ultimately, we think weddings are only for a day, but marriage is for a lifetime, so build the latter. It doesn’t cost tons of money to have a good wedding; after all, it’s not so much a good wedding that we desire but a good marriage. The key is to have a meaningful wedding.”
“We both love creativity. We had a casual vintage theme. Pastel blue was the main colour, followed by pastel pink and yellow. With the limited budget we had, and leveraging on God’s given idea, we made use of designs and lots of recycled materials for our invitations and wedding décor.
“Bottles and cans were collected from different kopitiam and cafés, with the help of some friends. Faith’s cousin Alexandrea Yeo, who is a designer, designed and made her wedding gown, and Faith’s brother composed a song for us.
“Our wedding bands were carried by my first Valentine’s Day gift to her – a teddy bear. I must admit that Faith was the main creative person when it came to the entire theme, resources and planning. She would make a really good wedding planner!
“I personally loved the wedding invitations (I’m biased!). It served not just as a wedding card with concept and info, but also as a fridge magnet. We’ve seen them in many of our relatives and friends’ homes. If you look closely, you’ll see ‘12345’ – 2012, March 4 at 5pm.
Our tips for brides-to-be: “Start with a theme while planning. Try to DIY if you’re confident enough, otherwise find friends who are. Get a good wedding coordinator who will help relief you from stress so you can enjoy the moment. Finally, appreciate those involved in making your big day happen.”
