Nestled within the labyrinth of seventh streets precinct sits Noordin Mews, a heritage Peranakan shophouse that was gloriously restored and now serves as a boutique hotel. Despite not being this couple’s original venue of choice for their ceremony, this place exceeded all expectations and provided everything and more for Priscilla’s dream of a spring garden wedding. The bride was resolute to include Shen Sheng, her 17 year old poodle in her wedding and this pet-friendly location ticked that box.

On the morning of January 8th 2022, before Georgetown batted its sleepy eyes and awakened to a buzz of liveliness, the day began for Marcus and Priscilla. Beyond the main doors of Noordin Mews, the energy is palpable as final preparations are set in place. Priscilla steals a moment of peace with her thoughts as her hair and make up are being done.

Brightly coloured fushia and pastel pink floral installations spruced up the mature architecture of this heritage building and set the mood for a fun and youthful ceremony. The bride wore an off-shoulder A-line gown with miniature floral lace over the bodice. On her head, a flower crown sits perfectly with oversized fuschia peonies matching her bridal bouquet. As guests enter the double wooden main doors, they leave behind the sounds of bustling Georgetown and enter a courtyard spiffed up with flowers, akin to a secret garden.

Marcus and Priscilla read out their personalised vows to each other before close family and friends. Between ceiling height ornate arches, symmetrical floral installations stood as altars where sacred promises were made between the two lovebirds. Later, a traditional tea ceremony took place and brunch was served.

The reception was held at the carefully restored Majestic theatre, a significant heritage building from the colonial era. Here, similar decor was employed and skillful touches were added for a seamless transition to a chinoiserie theme and guests were treated to a Peranakan western fusion dinner.

Wedding planning is universally known to be daunting. For this bride and groom, the pandemic brought about two postponements, vendor schedules going array, and the need to adapt to social distancing regulations. However, the third time must be the charm, because when Marcus and Priscilla decided to take the plunge and commit themselves to a wedding on the January 8th 2022, somehow the stars aligned, every vendor involved was available and everything went smoothly much to their relief. “Looking back, if it was meant to be it would be.” Priscilla recounts.
