Steph is a professional singer and Yishern is a pilot turned event planner. Yours Truly Entertainment, founded in 2019 is one of the most notable up and coming event companies in the wedding scene today. To achieve intimacy in a grandeur setting, Yishern decided to rattle how things were typically done and took inspiration across various Asian countries to realise their epic wedding at W Kuala Lumpur.

Steph and Yishern first met on Tinder in 2019. Theirs is a whirlwind romance that saw the birth into a family unit in just 3 years. Despite the short dating years, the 3 years was a condensation of peaks and troughs. When Yishern proposed, he, like many others during the pandemic, had just gotten retrenched so the affair was kept simple.

On the 17th of July, a cocktail bar with his and her drinks was assembled. Guests were also treated to bouquets from the flower bar as they mingled. The bride wore a short white number that was made by the groom’s mother as she went around greeting guests. Inside the ballroom, sunset toned florals featuring roses, carnations, tulips, daisies and ranunculus were arranged in a gradient to lend the organic feel. Between these, free standing adult height paper flowers provided the juxtaposition threatrics the couple wanted.

Instead of a typical first look, theirs took place in front of 200 guests. The ballroom was pitch black as lights flooded the centerstage where the couple would meet. Emcee Wei Wei opened the reception with the tale of their love story. The bride then walked – ballad playing in the background – halfway across the 80 feet platform to meet her groom. For Yishern and Steph, it was like they were the only ones in the room. The groom was overcome with emotions when he saw her. “Even though we have not dated for very long, she stuck through when things were uncertain and tough, she is like an angel from heaven to me.”

After exchanging vows, he surprised her with a song and as he ended, went down on one knee to ask for her hand once again. The groom took singing lessons discreetly and when it came down to it, executed the moment flawlessly. “I surprised her with another proposal to redeem myself from the previous one.” says Yishern.

“I will always remember the heartfelt speeches our friends gave during our wedding.” says Yishern. Their friends were only a few feet from them when the speeches were made, as similar lighting was used to create an intimate atmosphere. “A wedding is meant to celebrate the bride and groom. I hope to help others achieve their dream wedding as I did mine, free from the expectations of others or the way things are customarily done.”
